Educational Background


Starting his education as an architect while still in high school by attending evening classes at the Boston Architectural Center, Mr. Cross received his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley in 1991.  He was accepted as an inactive member of the Architectural Association in London in 1992.


Professional Experience


On both coasts of the United States, Mr. Cross has acquired a significant history of professional experience.  His combination of design and computer skills led to an unusually wide variety of firms soliciting his services early in his career.  Mr. Cross founded his practice studio in 1996.

The studio’s charter was to stay intentionally small and thus personalized, but with the capacity to bring state-of-the-art design technology both in process and in the field.  Significant projects have included theoretical work as well as physical plant projects such as Kaikodo America, an asian arts gallery on Manhattan’s upper east side, Aject Connect, a multimedia retail concept store in Bahrain, the Sedona Rouge Hotel and Spa in Sedona, Arizona, Cafe Monk, a restaurant in San Francisco’s south of market area, Endurance Performance Training Centers, numerous restaurants such as Playa and the Depot Bookstore and Cafe in Mill Valley, and dozens private residences from across the country in both rural and urban settings.  The studio’s design services range from master planning all the way to furniture design.


Awards and Press


His competition redesign of Union Square in San Francisco was selected as one of five finalists from a field of approximately 300 international entries.  Kaikodo America, the asian arts gallery was featured on CNN’s “Style.” The Sedona Rouge Hotel and Spa was published in both Metropolitan Home and Hotel Design Magazine.  Mr. Cross has also been fortunate to be named “one of California’s greenest architects” by Marin County Supervisor, Charles Mcglashan.


Civic Commitments


Mr. Cross was a two-term planning commissioner for the City of Mill Valley, and chaired that body twice.  He was the president of the Marin Football Club, an elite youth soccer program of approx. 1,000 players, for eight years.  He is a member of both Amnesty International and Greenpeace.  He was also the president of his neighborhood association.
